We chose to switch to this Aquatop version of the pump from the Marina version for one major reason. This pump is a true battery back up, meaning you can install 2 D sized batteries in it and also plug it into a wall outlet. The pump will run from your homes electricity but if for any reason power is cut off to the pump the battery power will kick in. No panicking to get home to hook the battery operated pump in, it's automatic. You gotta love when a piece of equipment takes care of you in emergencies!
The Aquatop AC/DC-One Battery Operated Air Pump provides auxiliary air when a main air source fails. It's a reliable back-up air source during a household AC power failure, and can also be used as a portable aerator for fish in transit. Comes with an air stone, 23" tubing and an AC power failure sensor. Uses two D cell batteries (Not Included).
I have not had to use this product to-date. However, since we have been experiencing brisk weather patterns lately, I feel very comfortable knowing I will be able to protect my tanks in any outages. It's a great tool.
The unit comes in a flexible pencil case style box with external power switch and battery holder inside. I fired it up to see how well it would do. Airstone produces a vast amount of coarse bubbles to really get the tank circulating quick! The pump itself is VERY LOUD and I would have otherwise buried it in a ball of sound dampening foam but the airline is too short to do so. I guess if this is for emergency circulation use only, then its a good product!
Haven't had any power outages yet but i put it all together and tested it out works good. This will help when we get power outages this year, nice product.
