Product Details & Care Guide

  • Place of Origin: Native to South America, primarily found in the TapajĂłs River basin and surrounding clearwater streams in Brazil.

  • Care Level: Easy. Hardy and adaptable, making it an excellent choice for both beginner aquarists and experienced hobbyists.

  • Minimum Tank Size: 15–20 gallons. As an active schooling species, they require open swimming space and must be kept in groups of 6 or more (8–10 preferred) to display natural schooling behavior and vibrant coloration.

  • Environment & Water Parameters: Thrives in a well-planted aquarium with a dark substrate, floating plants, and soft, gentle water flow.

    • Temperature: 72°F – 82°F (22°C – 28°C)

    • pH Range: 6.0 – 7.5

    • Hardness: 2 – 12 dGH

  • Feeding & Diet: Omnivorous and easy to feed. Offer a varied diet of high-quality tropical micro-pellets, high-protein flake food, and live or frozen treats like daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and bloodworms to enhance their natural color.

  • Tank Mates: Exceptionally peaceful community fish. Ideal tank mates include neon tetras, rasboras, corydoras catfish, dwarf gouramis, peaceful dwarf cichlids (like Ram Cichlids), and freshwater shrimp. Avoid large or aggressive tank mates that might see them as food.

  • Breeding: Egg-scatterer species. For breeding, set up a separate soft-water tank with fine-leaved plants (like Java Moss). Raise the water temperature slightly to ~80°F and lower lighting. Adult fish should be removed post-spawning to protect the eggs.
