Place of Origin

Endler’s Livebearers originate from the warm, warm-water lagoons, streams, and lakes of northern Venezuela, particularly around Lake Campoma and the Cumana region. The Black Cobra line is a selectively bred color strain developed to highlight brilliant serpentine patterns and deep melanistic coloration.

Minimum Tank Size

Because of their small size (males grow to about 1 inch, females up to 1.5 inches), a group can easily be kept in a 10-gallon aquarium. However, if keeping mixed sexes, a 15- to 20-gallon tank is recommended to accommodate rapid colony growth.

Ideal Environment & Aquascape

These lively fish look most vivid against a dark substrate with a heavily planted backdrop. Incorporate live aquatic plants like Java Moss, Anubias, Hornwort, and floating plants like Frogbit. The plants provide security, mimic their natural habitat, and offer essential hiding spots for newly born fry. Ensure gentle to moderate water flow using a sponge filter or adjustable power filter.

Feeding & Diet

Black Cobra Endlers are omnivorous with high metabolisms. They are not picky eaters and will accept almost any small foods:

• High-quality micro-pellets or crushed tropical flakes

• Live or frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms

• Spirulina flakes or algae wafers (they love grazing on naturally occurring biofilm)

Tank Mates & Temperament

Endlers are peaceful, non-aggressive community fish that stay near the middle and upper levels of the water column. They should only be housed with small, peaceful tank mates that won't see them as a snack.

• Great Tank Mates: Celestial Pearl Danios, Ember Tetras, Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus, Cherry Shrimp, and Amano Shrimp.

• Avoid: Larger, aggressive fish like Angelfish, large Cichlids, or fin-nipping Barbs.

Breeding

Breeding Black Cobra Endlers is virtually effortless. As livebearers, females give birth to free-swimming fry every 23 to 30 days rather than laying eggs.

• Male to Female Ratio: Keep a ratio of 1 male to 2 or 3 females to prevent males from exhausting individual females with constant courting.

• Fry Care: Dense plant cover (especially mosses) will ensure a high survival rate for fry without needing a separate breeding tank. Feed fry finely crushed flake food or live baby brine shrimp.
