Key Care & Habitat Guide

• Place of Origin: Native to the Mamberamo River basin in West Papua, Indonesia, thriving in heavily vegetated, slow-moving streams and tributaries.

• Tank Size & Environment: A minimum 20-gallon long aquarium is recommended for a small school of at least 6 individuals. Provide plenty of open swimming space paired with dense planted borders, driftwood, and subdued lighting to help them display their best coloration.

• Water Parameters: Maintain a stable tropical environment with a temperature of 72°F to 78°F, a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water.

• Tank Mates: Exceptionally peaceful and active, they make ideal inhabitants for a community tank. Excellent tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, cory catfish, peaceful dwarf cichlids, and freshwater shrimp. Avoid housing them with slow-moving, long-finned fish or aggressive large species.

• Diet & Feeding: As omnivore aquarium fish, they readily accept high-quality flake food, nano micro-pellets, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms to enhance their brilliant hues.

• Breeding: Egg scatterers that breed readily in a heavily planted breeding tank or over spawning mops. Adults should be conditioned with live foods, and parents should be removed after spawning as they do not exhibit parental care.
