The Orange Fin Kyathit Danio (Danio kyathit) features brilliant golden-copper striping and vivid orange-edged fins, making it a standout choice for community tanks.

Product Overview

  • Origin: Native to the fast-flowing streams and small rivers of Upper Myanmar (Burma) in Southeast Asia.

  • Care Level: Easy to Moderate. Highly energetic, hardy, and ideal for beginner to advanced freshwater hobbyists.

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons (long format preferred to accommodate their active swimming habits).

  • Ideal Environment: Thrives in well-oxygenated aquariums with moderate water flow. A setup featuring dense aquatic plants, driftwood, dark substrate, and a tight-fitting lid (as they are known jumpers) best replicates their natural habitat.

  • Feeding: Omnivorous and active surface-feeders. Provide a balanced diet of high-quality tropical flakes, micropellets, and occasional treats of frozen or live foods such as daphnia, bloodworms, and brine shrimp.

  • Tank Mates: Peaceful community fish. Best kept in schooling groups of 6 or more. Excellent tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, gouramis, corydoras catfish, and small peaceful loaches.

  • Breeding: Egg scatterers. To breed, set up a separate spawning tank with fine-leaved plants (like Java Moss) or a marble bed to protect eggs. Condition the pair with live foods, induce spawning with a slight temperature drop, and remove adults immediately after eggs are laid.
