Add a active, hardworking cleaner to your aquarium with the Panda Garra (Garra flavatra). Famous for its yellow-and-black striped body, playful personality, and appetite for unwanted algae, this peaceful bottom-dweller is a popular addition to planted community tanks.

Product Overview

  • Origin: Native to the fast-flowing, oxygen-rich rivers and hill streams of Rakhine State, Western Myanmar.

  • Aquarium Environment: Replicate their natural habitat with moderate-to-strong water flow, smooth river rocks, driftwood, and fine gravel substrate. Ensure a tight-fitting lid, as Panda Garras are skilled climbers and jumpers.

  • Care & Water Parameters: Beginner-to-intermediate level. They thrive in water temperatures between 72°F and 80°F, a pH of 6.5–7.5, and moderate water hardness (2–12 dGH). High oxygenation and good filtration are essential.

  • Minimum Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a small group of 3 to 5 fish.

  • Diet & Feeding: Omnivorous and eager algae eaters. While they graze on biofilm, green algae, and diatoms, supplement their diet with sinking algae wafers, high-protein pellets, and frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.

  • Tank Mates: Highly peaceful. Ideal community tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, danios, peaceful loaches, and Corydoras. Avoid housing them with aggressive cichlids or slow-moving fish with long fins.

  • Breeding: Breeding Panda Garra in home aquariums is challenging. They are egg-scatterers that require cold-water triggers and high current to simulate monsoon conditions. Successful breeding typically involves dedicated spawning tanks with mesh bottoms to protect eggs.
