Detailed Product Overview

Place of Origin

The ancestral roots of Poecilia wingei trace back to the specialized ecosystems of northeastern Venezuela, specifically the Laguna de Patos and surrounding coastal lagoons. While the wild habitats are increasingly threatened, the Royal Blue Endlers available today are high-quality, selectively bred strains produced in captivity to maximize their jaw-dropping iridescent blue coloration.

Ideal Tank Size & Environment

Because of their tiny adult size, a small group can comfortably thrive in a minimum tank size of 5 gallons. However, a 10-gallon aquarium is highly recommended to better manage water stability and give them ample swimming room.

To recreate their natural environment, provide a densely planted aquarium using live plants like Java Moss, Hornwort, and Anubias. Plants offer excellent hiding spots for fry, reduce stress, and mimic the sheltered margins of their native lagoons. Use a gentle or adjustable filtration system, as heavy currents can easily exhaust these small swimmers.

Diet & Feeding Requirements

Royal Blue Endlers are unfussy omnivores. In the aquarium, they will readily accept a base diet of high-quality micro flakes, crushed pellets, and freeze-dried foods. To maintain their vibrant blue sheen and support optimal immunity, supplement their meals with live or frozen treats such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and cyclops. They also possess a natural appetite for grazing on biofilm and algae growing over aquarium surfaces.

Peaceful Tank Mates

Endlers are exceptionally peaceful community fish. Due to their miniature stature, select nano tank mates that will not view them as a snack. Excellent choices include:

  • Other small livebearers (though avoid cross-breeding with standard guppies if you want pure strains)

  • Micro rasboras (like Chili or Celestial Pearl Rasboras)

  • Corydoras catfish and Neon Tetras

  • Freshwater invertebrates such as Cherry Shrimp, Amano Shrimp, and Nerite Snails

Warning: Avoid keeping them with aggressive or large predatory fish like Angels, Cichlids, or large Barbs, which will quickly stress or consume these peaceful nano fish.

Effortless Breeding

If you want an easy fish to breed, Endlers are the ultimate choice. As livebearers, females give birth to fully formed, free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs. A single female can produce a batch of 10 to 30 fry every 24 to 28 days. If you intend to raise the babies, ensure your aquarium is heavily planted so the fry can seek refuge, or utilize a separate breeding box. To ensure the health of your colony, maintain a breeding ratio of 2 to 3 females for every 1 male to distribute breeding harassment.
